Das ObjektForum, 1995 von Matthias Grund (andrena objects) und Thomas Lüdtke (Technologiepark Karlsruhe) aus der Taufe gehoben, ist mit jährlich über 1000 Besuchern zu einem wichtigen Ort des Austausches von Informationen, Erfahrungen und Visitenkarten geworden.
Das ObjektForum findet in verschiedenen deutschen Städten statt - in Hamburg wird es unter dem Namen ObjektForum Nord von it-agile veranstaltet.

Am 9. September findet in Hamburg das ObjektForum Nord zum Thema OSGi statt. Peter Kriens - OSGI's Technical Director - wird in dem Vortrag “OSGi: Why Modularity is Important” die Probleme der Modularität in Java analysieren und anschließend erläutern, wie man in diesem Zusammenhang von OSGi profitieren kann. Im Vorfeld dieses Abends bietet it-agile zudem ein Halbtags-Tutorial zu OSGi an. Peter Kriens und Matthias Lübken werden an dem Nachmittag ein Hands-On OSGi-Training anbieten. Es wird eine bestehende Anwendung schrittweise auf OSGi umgestellt und dabei die wesentlichen Features von OSGi vorgestellt. Einen detaillierten Abstract finden Sie weiter unten.

Das Vortrag ist kostenlos, und für die Teilnahme an dem Tutorial wird 350 € (netto) berechnet. Der Abend wird mit einem Buffet ausklingen.

Many developers are finding out that modularity has a significant influence on the development process. But unfortunately, Java has no concept of modularity, all JARs are placed on a linear classpath. Many projects have developed in-house plugin frameworks to achieve some modularity. The OSGi Service Platform is a standards based framework used by many projects. Some of the best known projects that use OSGi are Spring and Eclipse. There are many open source projects and commercial companies that have implemented the specifications: Apache Felix, Knopflerfish, Eclipse Foundation, ProSyst, IBM, Siemens, Hitachi, Samsung, etc. This presentation will analyze the problems with (the lack of) Java modularity and explain how OSGi provides many benefits for the development process as well as make the applications itself easier to maintain and extend. OSGi becoming widely adopted in a wide range of application areas. This adoption has taken a long time because only recently is it becoming clear that many of today's development problems are caused by lack of modularity. This tutorial will provide some hands on training on how to use the features of the OSGi specifications. We will take an existing non-OSGi application. Analyze it with bnd, make it a bundle, and then carve it up in smaller modules. Attendants must have prior Java experience.
